I.E.W Writing Essentials with Angie Tennant!

Let me tell you a little bit about me! This is my 6th year of homeschooling my two daughters, Heidi (13) and Ava (12). My husband (Tim) and I have been married for 19 1/2 years and we are so glad to be back in NWA!

I love being outdoors, reading, and spending time with my family. I spent the last two years teaching IEW in Classical Conversations as an Essentials tutor and
LOVED it! However, God was calling our family to do something different this year. I knew I wanted to become a registered IEW instructor so I could help others to enjoy writing, and now I
am so excited to continue teaching it!

**Originally these classes were to be part of our Network Day classes. Unfortunately, due to covid, Angie is offering alternative participation this semester. Please contact Angie directly for fall 2020 class options. We hope to have her join us in the Spring.**

Angie Tennant, IEW Instructor

If you aren’t familiar with IEW, allow me share to share some information about
the program. It is broken down into units, and each unit focuses on a new structure. Stylistic techniques (aka dress ups, decorations, and sentence openers) are added one at a time. This is the writing program I wish I would have had in school! I have always enjoyed writing, but my writing has become much more organized as a result of this program.

I would love the opportunity to make it fun and engaging for your child! Also, I have found that students are much more likely to be motivated if they have a group of peers to read their paper to.

Class Information

Level 1: Units 1-5

All students, unless they are already proficient in IEW, must start at level 1. Even if your child is in high school, this needs to be the starting place. I hope to complete unit 5, but I will gauge the students’ progress as we go.

My intention is to move slow enough that the skills are comfortable and natural, particularly on the foundational aspects of the program.

Recommended "Grade Level" is advanced 4th graders through high school.

Level 2  will pick up where we leave off in level 1. Your child will need to read “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis before the class starts.

Supplies to secure on your own:

1. “Following Narnia Volume 1: The Lion’s Song” (around $29 at christianbook.com).
2. 1 inch binder with notebook paper and dividers

Please contact Angie directly for her Fall 2020 rates and availability as she does NOT meet during our Network Days scheduled time.
